Diane Kovanda |
Diane has been dreaming mermaids since she was a child, living in Prague, Czech Republic. Morsky Pany, or mermaids existed far away in the ocean she had never seen, but the vodniks - the mysterious and elusive lake dwellers fed her imagination until she could move to Cape Cod and meet (and paint) her mermaid dreams. |

Some of Diane's paintings are inspired by people she knows, the painting shown above is inspired by her mom Jamila, others are commissioned to be a likeness of someone's child or loved one. |
When a mermaid comes to Diane, sometimes it's just a flash of a tail and long curled hair or at times it's a full encounter of swimming underwater with starfish and seahorses. As you encounter these beings, may you also swim with your wild divine. Imagination is the gateway to experiences beyond our wildest dreams. |

Yemaya is a West African (Yoruba) creation goddess, often depicted as a mermaid. She is associated with the moon, the ocean and female mysteries. Yemaya governs the household and intervenes in women's affairs. She is a merciful goddess, invoked by women for aid in childbirth, love and healing. |
