Phil Souza

Phil Souza is a native Cape Codder who makes his home in Cotuit, MA, where he is now a full-time artist. Born into a long heritage of gardeners and an accomplished “Master Gardener” himself, Phil designed some of the finest color gardens on Cape Cod for many years.

The influence of his gardening background is evident in his paintings. He has studied color theory, design, and sculpture with various local artists and for several summers studied with and was mentored by the late teacher and painter Sam Feinstein.

“I have long wondered what our lives here on Earth are all about and have come to accept the idea that we are not human beings having spiritual experiences, but rather spiritual beings having human experiences. When I approach the blank canvas, I intentionally try to

connect with that spirit so that the possibility for extraordinary work can occur. If, through my paintings I can somehow connect with the spirit in you, that is you, then there is happiness in my heart.”
